Reconnect with nature in the stunning country surroundings of Dumfries & Galloway whilst exploring your creativity amongst like minded people.

Susan McMillan's workshop 'Nature's Creativity' is suitable for beginners and more experienced artists who wish to 'loosen up' their drawing and painting skills by learning many of Susan's semi-abstract techniques.

About the Retreat

Arrive at The Coach House on Monday evening and enjoy an evening meal whilst meeting your hosts and fellow guests.


On Tuesday morning after a restful night, there will be a gentle optional yoga / mindfulness session followed by light breakfast. A few mindfulness techniques will be taught by Margaret Lilley followed by a short mindful walk where you will be joined by visual artist Susan McMillan to forage from your surroundings. The next 2 hours in the studio you begin your introduction to Susan's workshop 'Nature's Creativity' where she will aim to have you leave your inhibitions behind and have fun with your artwork using your 'tools' from nature! Media used during the classes include inks, fluid acrylics and charcoal. Light lunch to follow then you will continue the workshop, developing upon your ideas. In the evening following dinner you will have the option to regroup or perhaps explore the surrounding area.


Wednesday, following optional yoga / mindfulness and breakfast. The morning workshop with Susan will continue to develop your work from the day before. Following lunch you will have a free afternoon. An optional afternoon trip led by Fiona Lee from Kirkudbright Art Tours to 'artist's town' Kirkudbright can be booked. Dinner followed by free evening.


On Thursday, following optional yoga / mindfulness and breakfast you will join Susan to create your own artwork using, if you wish some of the techniques learnt. Free afternoon.


Depart Friday following breakfast. You will be given a packed lunch for your journey.

There will be ample free time for you to explore the beautiful surrounding countryside at Durhamhill or to visit the local coastline which is only a 20 minute drive away.

Non-participating partners are welcome to stay in a shared room with you and join in at meal times etc. There are a number of local places of historical interest, walking routes and golf courses etc nearby or within a short drive.


 

 

Margaret Lilley

Margaret has a deep belief in the healing power of nature, creative activities, mindfulness, meditation and fun! A 20 year background in nursing during which time she lived extensively overseas, led her to an appreciation of both western and eastern medicine, and a true love of experiential travel. Bringing like minded people together in beautiful locations, creating life changing memorable experiences is a dream role for Margaret as your retreat coordinator and 'go to person'. She is a fully qualified Mindfulness Meditation Teacher with Mindfulness Now and a Reiki Practitioner and looks forward to expanding and integrating these roles within Peace Lily Retreats.

Susan McMillan

Susan is known for her use of mixed media and will demonstrate ways to encourage your artistic creativity. ‘The aim of this workshop is to immerse yourself in creating artwork for the fun of it, we will use a variety of tools to explore mark making (not all conventional!). We will use nature to provide us with inspiration and materials to paint with and to sketch the natural world.' Susan's workshop 'Nature's Creativity is suitable for beginners and more experienced artists who wish to 'loosen up' their drawing and painting skills by learning many of Susan's abstract techniques. Media used during the classes include inks, fluid acrylics, pastels, chalk and charcoal. Susan McMillan is based in South Lanarkshire where her work is on sale and she holds regular workshops and exhibitions.

 

 

 

 

The Food

Caterer Anna Mockford from Mockford & Bonetti has been extremely popular amongst our retreat goers and travels all the way from the Isle of Mull! Let Anna nourish your body with delicious freshly cooked meals, bread and cakes baked daily whilst you focus on you and your retreat experience.

All meals are plant based using the freshest, locally sourced produce with fresh meat and seafood options. Teas, coffees and fresh fruit are always available. All food preferences catered for and should be advised at time of booking.
